I know when I suggested one time that is someone offered the Riders a 1st round draft pick for Harrell, we should take it, I was labled as a lunatic for even considering such a thing.
I don't know if Harrell will be a star, or if Lulay will be a star. What I do know is, Lulay progressed rather nicely last year for the Lions, and given an opportunity to play, looked decent. As guys like Harrell or Bergquist haven't had that chance yet, we simply do not know if they can play. Lulay surpassed the 3rd stringer from 2008, Zac Champion, at least in the estimation of Wally Buono. When Harrell or Bergquist surpass somebody on the Rider depth chart, we can start to talk about their future stardom.

You basically just summed up the entire argument for letting Jyles go. Lulay stepped up because he was given the opportunity to. Jyles here is inhibiting us being able to find out about these guys. The only reason Lulay was able to showcase himself was due to injuries......in which case your throwing a young guy into the fire anyhow (viable backup has been the argument to keep Jyles) If we continue to just hang onto these young guns we may not get more than a couple quarters in the pre season. They need some mop up time in a regular season setting too.

Hell Lulay didn't just pass Champion, he pushed right past Pierce too! Funny how that can happen if a guy can get a shot. I'm not saying that Harrell is a sure fire CFL All Star but I sure wanna find out if he is at least worth his salt as a backup and potentially a guy who could push Durant. Same applies for Berquist and Bell.

IMHO you'll see Pierce land in Toronto and Jyles land in Winnipeg.

Not aiming this at you fellow Dawg but it's funny on here sometimes that everybody elses third stringers and young guys must be better thatn the Riders.

I certainly understand what you mean and agree with it. However, it has a lot to do with the fact that Lulay has actually seen the field and has had a decent performance. Teams would be more likely to grab an available prospect like Lulay than Harrell or Bell who have seen no game time. Although, IMO, I do think Harrell has way more potential than Lulay does.

I don't really see that as a reason to let Jyles go either though. I think having 3 QBs all within 6 months of age is an issue, long term, but not really this year yet. But, god forbid, if DD were to be injured this year, then Jyles gets his opportunity. I don't see the difference as to whether or not Jyles gets that chance, or Bell, or Harrell, or Bergquist. It'll be somebody's chance. Jyles is about as old as Calvillo was when he was under studying Ham, but I wonder how dumping Calvillo would have worked out just so the 3rd stringer---whomever he was-- could have moved up the foodchain?
If either Harrell or Bergquist can't push out Bell in TC, the way Lulay did to Zac Champion, then one begins to wonder if they are ever going to play. I don't need them to be handed the 2nd job just because.....

Ha, yeah I remember that, my favorite line from Suitor ever was his comment about Buck Pierce's health being play-to-play.

Honestly, Winnipeg could do a lot worse than picking up FA Jyles and then Pierce when he's released. Two decent QBs with lots to prove veying for the #1. But Toronto will probably scoop up one of those guys.

Does this spell the end of Michael Bishop in WPG? I'm pretty sure it does.

Lulay has shown me as much Jeff Bentrim showed in year 1.

Actually if you measure QB's strictly on passing yards, TD's etc, the usual stuff, you may be right; but the difference with Lulay is he came into games as a third stringer and took control of the offence like he was the first stringer. We never missed a beat. His confidence and control of the huddle and situations is what impressed us out here. Especially Wally.

With that stats will improve with playing time.

It's nice to see QB's on the roster come into games and show you who they are. Again not with stats but with composure. Perhaps that what other posters were referring to?

No, it's really just the usual coveting thy neighbour's wife and backup QB's because they must be better.

So now that Braley offically owns the Argos, does Buck become an Argo? Seems logical with BC having 3 starting capable QBs right now and TO having none

I would doubt that very much.

Personally, I think the guy has a lot of grit, but if it wasn't for Lumsden in Edmonton - he'd be the player most likely to get injured with a single hit.

This.
