This is crazy , Willy might sit this year if heís not signed by the Leafs tomorrow at 5 eastern . The Leafs better be careful Nylander IMO isnít that good

The Leafs have the upper hand on this. If Nylander does no sign for a 2 year deal he sits an entire year of a short enough career. He can't make that money up and the Leafs still own him and will trade him next year. The Leafs will be fine without him.

I don't know if they will get a deal done and I agree the Leaf's have to be really careful with Willy as he is 4th or 5th on Leaf's forward dept chart. This part might hurt a little, Willie would be the best forward on the Hab's roster.

I think a deal gets done , hearing that they are 500 g apart on a new contract.

They seem to be doing pretty well without him.

Welcome to the new NHL, two seasons with 61 points and Nylander figures he is worth 7-8 million/ year.
Leafs should hold firm and let him sit if he so chooses, priority should be locking up Marner and Matthews long term which in itself will be tricky in a salary cap world.

But he's good enough to earn his own thread apparently.

If Marnerís season continues as is he could be looking at a contract very similar to what John Tavares received.

Good secondary players will have to go unfortunately, almost impossible to keep well constructed teams together for any decent stretch of time.
Matthews 8 years $100M would be my guess.
