This year is pretty much over and hopefully they can get rid of some aging/expiring assets for more pieces and continue the rebuild. They have some pieces in place, but still need a lot more to work with. The nice thing is Atkins and Shapiro have done this before in Cleveland with some success.
I completely trust Atkins and Shapiro too. All they have to do now is manage the talent they already have in A/AA over the next few years plus add some pitching pieces. Why don't the Jays simply call up Vlad if he's doing so good?

    (stolen from reddit)

If we call him up now we control him through 2023 and have four years of arbitration, if we call him in 2 months we control him through 2023 and have three years of arbitration, if we call him up next April we control him through 2024 and have four years of arbitration.
This is why the Jays are likely to leave him to demolish AA/AAA for this year. They'd rather (rightly) control an older, better Vlad at the end of his contract when the team will be great than a young Vlad on a .500 team. So he'll stay in AA and destroy lives and hope itself.

Next year? He'll be a MLB player and he'll be dominant.

If the Jays are out of the wildcard will we see a Donaldson trade for a pitching prospect? Interesting times.

I hope JD gets hot/healthy and increases his value to help the club with the return

Despite some calling the season over in May (), there are some bright spots on the team and reason to continue watching them.

Season's not even close to over. Really if this was a football season we'd be about 1/4 of the way in and 2 and 2

Sure ... but pretty tough for them to catch a wild card berth when you look at who is above them ...

They're basically fighting with the Angels and Mariners right now. Good teams but not unbeatable.

Injury bug could bite them just as hard at any point.

Even though he is an advanced hitter, his defense still needs a lot of work. That is what will delay his arrival, unless they make him into a full time DH.

Speaking of the Mariners.... Cano slapped with an 80-game substance abuse suspension.

That is true. Hopefully he keeps his weight in check or he will end up a DH for life.

Advanced hitter in minors....Huge jump to MLB pitching. Last thing he needs to be mired in a slump. Let him mature.

As itís not my money, call Vlad up, DFA Kendrys and let Josh and Vlad rotate between 3rd and DH.

The money to DFA Kendrys is a drop in the bucket compared to what it may cost them to keep an in his prime Vlad on a contending team. If this current group had a legit shot at the World Series, ok, but this group isn't a serious playoff contender. It's looking like it is going to take 90+ wins to make the playoffs and this group of Jays is not capable of that.

I would not be surprised if he opens next year in the minors. I think his defense keeps him there for the rest of this season and they will play service clock games with him early next season.

So is that Craig Biggio's kid? We have a lot of sons of former Major Leaguers.
