What is wrong with the Saddledome, other than not being new?

So that means the Stamps won't be building a new stadium??

That is quite the bombshell, given that the city would need to build one if they're going to bid for the 2026 Olympics. Wouldn't the Flames want to stay involved so they have some say in that process?

Perhaps he's doing this on the same day as the Seattle arena news hits in order to put pressure on the City.

It doesn't maximise Calgary Sports and Entertainment's revenues.

Massive blow to the fans of the Flames and Calgary hockey fans. Not sure there's long term viability there now. The Saddledome is the oldest arena in the league except for MSG which has undergone several major renos.

Wonder if the wealthy team gave any consideration to using their own money to building a money making building? I know it's a novel concept but it's one more Cities should consider as they flounder in debt and their citizens watch taxes increase as service declines.

Lol. It's called "negotiating" or "holding for ransom" like all pro sports teams do. I'm almost certain that the timing of this to coincide with the Seattle arena announcement is no fluke at all.

Problem for the Flames is the Oilers got a sweetheart deal for their new palace. I'd imagine Calgary wants something like that. Seattle is a VERY attractive market though.

Bo not happy because he knows that without a Flames project there's nothing coming for the Stamps.

I seem to remember the same kind of thing back in the early stages of the oilers negotiating their new arena

Good question. According to the interwebs, the Saddledome has the 5th largest capacity of any arena in the NHL. The Flames must be making money with that arena, so why the dire need for a brand new arena?
