  • If this football thing doesn't work out for Dakoda Shepley...

An NFL player and movie actor are two of the most coveted professions. It's hard enough to reach the pinnacle in one of those fields, much less both. However, there have been a few who have gone from the gridiron to the big screen. Jim Brown, Terry Crews, Dakoda Shepley...

Wait, who? Yup, the rookie OL can be seen in Deadpool 2. However, even if you're familiar with the 23-year-old out of the University of British Columbia, it may be a difficult to recognize him in the blockbuster film.

Shepley is a featured extra in Deadpool 2, playing the role of the villain Omega Red.

What started as a side job to bring in some cash in college has led to a role in a movie that has made over $600 million worldwide.

"It was a pretty cool experience," Shepley told the New York Post. "My parents thought I'd be the next The Rock, an acting football player."

Although Shepley was booked for 21 days of filming, it had to be shortened to just one day because it conflicted with his training camp for the UBC Thunderbirds.

Shepley was selected fifth overall in the Canadian Football League, but the 6-foot-5, 290-pound lineman opted to chase his NFL dream as an undrafted free agent instead.

Shepley has had other minor roles, such as being a body double for Robert Maillet in the Netflix comedy Game Over, Man!, but he said making an NFL roster is his top priority.

"I can't imagine being a full-time actor and being a full-time football player..." said Shepley in the New York Post. "I'd have no time to train. It's definitely something I'd like to pursue after football, whenever that may be."
Can Dakoda Shepley join the likes of Jim Brown and Terry Crews by starring on the gridiron and the big screen?

Interesting, I was surprised that he was undrafted to the NFL! We have a much better chance of him returning to the Riders as most undrafted players have a harder time making it in the NFL!

Geez. So the Riders are his 3rd priority now. Lol.

This was an interesting article. The jets did spend 10,000 of their 80,000 available for undrafted free agents on Dakoda, but that is minimal in the scheme of things. I think he is our right guard by labour day.

If Dakoda does come to the Riders, he and Cam Judge may have some interesting connections. For those who donít know - Camís Dad is Christopher Judge, Tealíc from Stargate SG1 - who used to play football too. Iíd include a picture but skeered of copyrights.
          TD Riders!

If you want to see a pic of Christopher Judge, have a look at his Wikipedia entry at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Judge

Dakoda Shepley listed as a second for LG. He's likely battling for a practice squad spot.

Kacy Rodgers listed as third for strong safety.

Sinkfield as a fifth for corner.

I wonder if we will ever see Shepley in the CFL. With a poor CDN dollar, small salary cap, competition for the best CDNs from the NFL and then new competition from the Alliance league, the CFL needs to make some changes.

                  Start with the ratio. Please.

surprised to see Sinkfield converted to CB - a dangerous WR being used as a DB? Where is their recruiting? WHy can't they find a DB to backup? Who in their right mind takes a wr and lines him up at CB?

                    - hope he comes back to the CFL - solid return guy - solid deep threat as a WR - he will help someone

Hope Rogers comes back here - but with Purifoy he may be redundant

Interesting. I keep an eye on the NFL depth charts on CBS sports NFL site. They have Shepley listed as the third Left Guard.

I wonder if Shepley is bulking up at all for the NFL game. At 290 lbs he is giving up 20-30 lbs to other guards on their roster

How would changing the ratio help deal with competition from the Alliance? They're going to be focused on US players. For Canadians, the CFL represents as good as or a better level of play, combined with a much better opportunity to play right away and better job security.

If anything, the best thing they can do to counteract the threat of the new US leagues (the Alliance and soon the XFL) is to focus on promoting and developing more Canadian talent.

i totally agree. I can't get over fans of the CFL who constantly wine about the Canadian part of the league. If they want more Americans they should be following the NFL.
