  • Stupid parking violations

So apparently if you drive a small car, you have to make certain you're not more than 2 meters from a meter pole. Forget that you pull into a stall and stop where you can see in front of you, a good common sense distance from the opposite driveway, but heaven forbid your back bumper being a smaller car is +2M from the meter pole.

What's your stupid reason for a parking ticket?

Yeah, I got one of those once too. Crazy.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I can't imagine parking 6 feet away from the meter and thinking, "looks good!". To me, short car means I'm leaving extra space at the front to make driving away easier. Anyhow, lesson learned. How much was the damage?

My one and only parking ticket. I was running late for an appointment, parked and got out and ran to where I needed to be. I honestly just forgot to put money in the meter. Simple as that. The only stupid thing about it was me for forgetting what I was doing. Ticket was $10 or $20 I think. Was a few years ago.

I know it is hard to sometimes see a disability on people but it really pisses me off when I see people that I am almost confident are misusing handicap parking spots. Just because you are using grandmas car that has a handicap placard, doesn't mean you are allowed to use it to park in a prime spot to go shopping if grandma is not with you but at home. Anyway that's my rant of the day...

I have a placard and I use it. You can't judge a book by the cover. I look like a perfectly healthy middle age guy. I used to feel the same way you do. Before you judge walk a mile in their shoes.

Oh I know you can't always tell visually, that is why I alluded to that in my post. There is no doubt abuse of it happens also. I have watched a few videos on YouTube of "stings" they have done (mostly in the US) where they catch people and give them a ticket and/or seize the placard. They should do that around these parts once in a while.

Mine is actually expired so I hang it backwards, reminds me I need to get a new one . I used to be the exact same way. You look at someone getting out of a car that seems perfectly fine and you wonder why they have the placard? I get dis concerning looks all the time. Trust me I would rather not have it than have to use it.

Remember, they may be picking grandma up. When I drop my 86 year old mom off at the mall, and pick her up later, I'm often in and out of the wheelchair spot, alone, but with her pass.

We use ours all the time when I am with my wife because she has mobility issues since her accident. I am hit and miss as to whether I use it or not. Depends where I am and how busy it is. You wouldn't know I need one either by looking at me or seeing me walk. I have had people comment to me about it and I tell them next time I see my specialists I will get them to call for a consult.

I told one to call my pulmonologist. That conversation didn't last long.

                        Speaking of crazy parking rules...

At the south Chapters/Starbucks, they recently put signs on two entire rows of parking spots that they are for parents with kids only. First... why? Secondly, how the heck is that policed or enforced? Can you get a special pass if you have a kid? How old of a kid?

Anyway, its made that lot into even more of a gongshow than it already was at busy times.

It's the world getting more disabled. Im finding more an more going into packed parking lots with a dozen empty handicapped spots. Do the disabled shop at different times than I? Not meaning any insensitivity, just curious what the standard is or where it comes from for how many spots are designated..

Your doctor has to sign off on it. I never even asked for one and rarely use it.
