  • Sasktel MaxTV STREAM (new cable option)

We don't use conventional cable, but I think we would consider this if we were looking to get it. Was at a friends and they had just got it going, and seems great. Sounds like it is pretty new, and I thought some might be interested in it. What is great is that you can get channels on your TV, but you can also stream on your tablet/phone, which is an awesome feature.

one box was something like 100 bucks and it is 20 bucks a month for the service. Note that you do need to have Sasktel internet service for it.

    https://www.sasktel.com/store/browse...am/_/N-1x8zqo8
    https://www.sasktel.com/store/browse...eam/_/N-zzw9it

and yes, you get all 5 TSN channels:
    https://support.sasktel.com/app/answ...ail/a_id/24666

The next post (post #2, as I am over the character limit) is the apparent list of channels, but,
    https://www.sasktel.com/store/browse...es/_/N-17buw6u
this says you get 50 channels. So, I don't know if you have to pick and choose or what.

This just seems to be the answer that a lot of cord cutters or people considering it have been begging for.

Shaw FreeRange TV has existed for years.

        Not sure what’s new here.

What a confusing mix of restrictions.... Think I'll stick with my streaming box.

There are channels where all shows can be watched up to 72 hours after it aired.

Free range is an add-on service for cable subscribers. MaxTV Stream is an Android STB with live TV at a much lower price then cable or traditional maxTV. The trade-off is no PVR and the experience is more of a OTT experience then a traditional cable experience.

It seems to be more expensive than cable, so I don't know what the selling point is. You can watch it on a tablet?

It's more expensive for the same package I currently have with MAXTV. It's 54.95 and I currently pay $40 for the same channels.

Free Range is free with any cable subscription.

And at $35/month .. that is definitely more expensive then my current cable subscription. This price also makes no sense. They post it as $55/month, but you save $20/month if you bundle with SaskTel Internet .. but you are REQUIRED to have SaskTel Internet. So advertising the $20 bundle savings that you have to do, is sort of sleezy.

So you get a downgraded box (Android vs MaxTV PVR) .. for how much in savings?

You can get MaxTV + Infinet40 for $114.

                      Infinet40 is $70.

                      So $70+35 ... $105.

I'm on a legacy price (that I won't be getting rid of any time soon I guess) .. where I get Shaw Blusky 'Medium' TV + Internet 300 for $140. Looking at SaskTel's prices .. for Internet 300 .. That's $150/month by itself. SaskTel's Bundles are awful. So I guess this is an option if you want really good internet, and basic TV.

Add in PVR and HD on maxTV and it is not cheaper. Not saying anyone should switch just where the price is less.

Not sure how it is more expensive when you are paying 40. It is cheaper and sounds like you would get more channels, plus you can watch it anywhere.

                              It's 20.

I mean unless you have nothing for internet except your phone, but I assume the majority have internet at home. If you don't, then sure, it changes things. Seeing as you are saying 55, then I assume you have infinet. There-in it is 35 (which does seem stupid that it costs more if you have a better service at your house). and again, it is something you can use anywhere, which is the big perk.
