the name is Chris...native Californian...45 years old ...was a rider fan before most of you were even a gleam in your old man`s eye on a Friday night...which gives me not one damn iota more knowledge about football than anyone else here but also doesn`t stop me from being insufferably opinionated and intolerant of other`s opinions...work as a substance abuse counselor...had a desire to be a writer at one time until I read Calder`s book about the riders and that disabused me from any delusions that I had the "right stuff" to be a writer...still I`ve been published about a dozen times, mostly in obscure college annuals or literary reviews that nobody reads and still I obsessively collect printed material about the CFL and the riders in the hope that I might be able to write a book about them someday...hope springs eternal...like to sniff bicycle seats but thrice weekly therapy sessions are starting to break me of this addiction...used to vacation in western half of Canada as a kid and that was when I came to know about the CFL and the riders...lost my innocence to a Canadian girl, have loved Canada ever since...did you know you can do more interesting things with a chicken than just cook it?

Only missed 1 Rider home game since moving to Regina in 97. Lived in Calgary for 9 years before that, and seen pretty much every game the Riders played in McMahon during that time, as well as quite a few trips to Regina for LD. Before moving to Calgary, lived in Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Humboldt.

Attended first Rider home game in 76 or 77. Became aware of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1966 when my older brothers were all excited about them winning the GC. Been to 7 Grey Cups in the last 9 years, and don't plan on missing another.

Favorite childhood Rider: George Reed
Favorite all-time Rider: Ray Elgaard
Favorite current Rider: Jackie Mitchell

Hope to one day attend all Rider games (home and away) in one season.

One last note: This existence of this site had done a fantastic job of bringing together a lot of us Rider fans for things like the game in Calgary. This would have never have happened otherwise. Thanks Chaps!

Didn't really follow CFL that closely before but I knew of the Riders since Paul McCallum went there after 1996 in Europe -- I did root for the Stamps when Marcus Crandell won the Grey Cup . Knew Marcus from Europe and I like him, even if he did get suspended from our team on the eve of World Bowl 2000, which we then lost, for disciplinary reasons (breaking curfew basically) :(

Watching/listening to the Riders is tough. For me it's like having another Claymores season start right after the one in Europe ends. Just after I've been emotionally mugged in Europe for 11 weeks, I get to listen to the Riders crush my hopes for another 18 weeks and the playoffs. Sometimes I feel like I want to go to sleep in April and be woken up in December being told that the football is over and my teams won!

First game was Labour day for get the year, Milson Jones runs about 30 yards and flips the ball off to Denny Ferdinand for the Riders to close out the game.

Usually make it to one game a year in Taylor field. My parents have been Rider season ticket holders forever.
I've been a rider fan for as long as I can remember.

Can't wait for the game in October and I'll see you all at Grey Cup.

My big brother (CRF's neighbour) started taking me to games with his buddies in the late 80s. The first game I remember being at is the 88 playoff game (Milson Jones gave me his chinstrap(?!) on his way to the dressing room after the game). Season ticket holder from 94 - 2001, riders are 1-2 with me at Skydome.

33 yrs old. Working as an engineer with an oil and gas company in Calgary. Born in Yorkton, raised in Moose Jaw, and went to University in Saskatoon.
Earliest childhood memory was 1976 and Gabriel catching "The Pass".
Visit riderfans.com quite regularly to keep in touch with Rider/CFL news but have never posted. Have held Stamps season tickets for several years. Tailgate and proudly wear green and white to every game. Have attended every Grey Cup since 1993 except for 2. My wife, from Newfoundland, converted to a huge Rider/CFL fan after attending the 1995 Grey Cup with me. Have 2 boys ages 4 and 2 that we've successfully brain-washed into being huge Rider followers as well.
Most memorable Rider moments;
- attending the Thanksgiving day game in 1995 against Calgary when Jeff Garcia couldn't hear due to the 55,000 plus fans.
- witnessing Reggie Slack's performance in the dying moments of the '97 play-off game in Calgary.
- every Labor day game in Regina, most notably last year's game as referred to by Bomber fans as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show".
- the draw play to Brian Walling (sp) in '89.

Born and raised a Rider fan in Swift Current. I've attended at least 4 games a year since 81. My favorite Rider moment was sitting in the stands at TF in 88 and hearing the 11 Years That's Enough song being played over the PA to announce that we had FINALLY made the playoffs. I must have watched that tv video a thousand times that year. A close second is attending every Labour Day game with the Pulse. Rocket Ismails arrival to Taylor Field. Only year since then that I didn't make it to any games was 1996. I was in Lethbridge going to school.

Fondest memory. Spending student loan money to follow the Riders throughout the 97' playoff run. Didn't miss a moment.

fondest memory?? Hmmm... a couple years ago, had a 'few' beers in me at the game.... went to the washroom, about 7 back in line from a stall (and all yall know how those lines are) so the washroom was just packed! Anyways, some dude started singing 'Green in the Colour' and then (I swear to God) the ENTIRE bathroom full of guys all sang super loud. It was great!!
(Sorry to admit that my favorite moment was in the b'room and all... that sounds really bad!!!)

Last year I met Nealon and Quincy at BP's after the game.. that was another one of my fave moments! Both really nice guys!

LOL That is so funny that you say that cause I had the same thing happen to me. It was at labourday, we killed em, I went into loaded washroom after game was over and starting singing:"I wanna Rock and Roll all night, and party every day!" and the entire washroom joined in at the top of thier lungs, I SWEAR! Try it after a really big win when lots of people are drinking and I bet it works every time.

I am 28 as Chaps already told everyone on my bday on sunday.
I have lived in Regina 9 years as of today.
My first rider game ever was nine years ago and it was a labour day game and fell in love. My brother used to drive from La Ronge just for Rider games so have knwon all about them for long time. (he had a little car all painted up with rider s on the side and pic of helmet on hood. Ritchie Hall came to La Ronge once and my bro stopped him from getting on the plane to sign his car.)
My son as Ricky G said is a huge fan been to two labour day games and is going this year(family tradition starting) oh yeah he's only three.

Born in Regina, grew up in Regina, went to university in Regina.

Started going to games when I was about 5. Long before there was the flame, there was a guy who fired a cannon when the 'Riders scored. That was my Dad. I use to get to go to the games and sit right down on the field. As a 5 or 6 year old, how cool is that!?!?

Worked for Earl at Taylor Field while in high school. In university, I bought tickets the year they started the University section. Actually help sell them.

Before school ended, IBM offered me a job in Toronto. I thought, "All I have to do is pass? Cool!" Moved here about 15 years ago. Have been an Argo season ticket holder for all but one year since they moved to Skydome, the memorable 1989! ;) (I got married in 1989, so I never forget how many years I've been married ;) )

My kids have probably been to more CFL games than the average Canadian. They've been going to games since birth. My daughter's first game came in 1994. The CFL had told the Ti-cats they had to sell something like 15,000 season tickets by the end of the season or the league would fold them. The last game of the year was against the 'Riders some I figured that if that was the Cats last game, I'm going. We bundled up my 2 month old daughter and sat in the sleet as the 'Rider beat the Cats. :D

The whole family goes to Argo games now. My 5-year old son has cheered for the 'Riders until this year. He's decided he's an Argo fan now . He was real annoying for 58 minutes of the first game of the year. He's really into now, and it's pretty cool (even if it is the Argos).

Transferred from Swift Current to Moose Jaw 1 year ago to work for an ag dealership.
(110 miles closer to Taylor Field!)

33 years old, married and have 3 year old boy who just got his first Rider jersey at Sunday's game
against Ottawa.

Favorite old school players; Chris DeFrance and Joey Walters
Favorite players today; Reggie Hunt and Matt Dominguez

Worst personal Rider moment at T.F.
The missed field goal against Montreal this year. It was the most horrible empty feeling
I have ever experienced. Just getting ready to cheer a win and then nothing but silence.
Better days ahead!!!!

p.s. hey boys, bring back the Herbert Hawks!!!

Been a season ticket holder since 1976, and indeed this is the best team I have seen since 1976, and I am 45 years old.

Football Fanatic, used to sneak into Taylor field as a kid to sit in the Main stands or get banished to the Rider Rookie section. And I remember when Taylor field had real grass as well.

BOY, I have seen a lot of bad football in-between those years.

Hello. My name is Steve. And I am a Riderholic.

Born in 1964. According to family legend, I was supposed to be named, in part, for Rider coach Steve Owen (and a Lord Stephen somebody-or-other who helped solve the 1962 medicare dispute).

Born in Fillmore Union Hospital March 1, 1964. I'll go back to Fillmore only when the end of the world comes -- everything there happens a hundred years later.

One sister, who's married and living in Calgary with her husband and two children.

Fan as long as I can remember, though the latter part of the Al Ford era was a very trying time.

First remember cheering for the Riders in 1969 Grey Cup, where they lost to Ottawa.

First game attended was at Taylor Field in 1973, Grey Cup rematch against Hamilton.

Lowest point in my life was 1995. I had a ticket for the Grey Cup ... 45 yard line 10 rows up on the west side ... and was unable to go because of double pneumonia (hospitalized). In fact, I mised the entire week's festivities. (Not going to make that mistake again).

Soon to be ex-editor of The Fort Times in Fort Qu'Appelle (after you write a headline with "Provincial Court" and "castration case," there's not much else one can do in small-town journalism).

Effective next month, living common-law with fellow Rider fan Tammy (works for SaskPower) and we're expecting in February. One more Rider fan on the way.

Currently Calgary resident and season ticket holder at McMahon
Born in Saltcoats, Sask. and University in Saskatoon
Occupation: I am the guy who goes around oiling the seat hinges on the portapotties for Rocky Sanitation

My parents are not sports fans and the reason I discovered football is that I was watching TV (one of the 2 channels we got with peaseantvision) and came across the game (I was probably 7 or 8 at the time). Thought it looked interesting and watched it. Then realized that one of the teams was from Saskatchewan and was even more excited. Started devouring football on TV for years and finally got a chance to go to a game in high school with a friend and his dad - they had season tickets and I had to buy my own game day ticket and sit by myself - good experience!

That is a post that I can relate to BG, I also had "peasantvision", although since I am slightly older( by 10 years, almost) I had but a solitary channel. However this channel did carry football games as well, and every now and then I wa able to catch a Lions game, awesome.

However my first live game came at McMahon Stadium with my then gf (now wife of 18 years) while the Lions were in town. It was -30 plus had a windchill, I believe that the Lions lost the game but once I removed my frozen feet from the concrete I can not remember anything else.

Anyways I had Stampeder seasons for about 6 of the 10 years I resided in Calgary, and now have been able to move closer to where I belong and am a Lions season ticket holder.

BTW, when my wife stuck out that weather for a Lions game, I knew I couldn't throw her back. :o

I didn't moderate you, but until you explained yourself, my first thought was that you were a Riderfan using a handle to incite Eskimo fans. If that had been the case, imagine the doo-doo the mods here would have gotten from other sites for 'allowing that'.

Born and raised mostly in Regina

Closer to 40 than 30.

Went to almost every game between 79 (Rider Rookie Section) and 94. At that point Al Ford decided to blow up a pretty good team, and save money, because he could force us to buy season tickets to get Grey cup Tickets.

I figured if Ford did not care about winning, i did not care about attending. Never lost my hope for better, but came close a couple times.

After Roy showed up, my hope came back. I am probably a bigger fan than I have ever been now, attening 4 road games this year.

Playoff game in early October? Maybe a 'Rider game that day (don't recall), but certainly not a playoff game.

Ooohhh. I get it! Ya know what? By October, all 'Rider games are effectively playoff games.

Went to the BC game (loudest game I have ever been to), why can't the Riders play like that all the time?

Currently live in Calgary, but born and raised in Regina and moving back to God's country (aka Sunny Saskatchewan; this time Saskatoon) next month!

I have worked with the Riders as both a staff member and volunteer for the past 15 years.

Was in Toronto when we won the Cup in 1989. Was also in the blizzard in 1997 in Edmonton when we came up a little short. Grey Cup 95 was great and I can't wait for the festivities to begin this year.

My turn. Sorry I took so long.

Born in Regina, lived there until early 20's, have lived/worked in Estevan/North Battleford/Lloydminster in the last 12 years. We still have a family farm near Stoughton, I make it home for every seeding or harvest. Live now in Whitecourt, AB and am a small business owner. Father of a 4 year old son who lives for the 'Riders, dresses in Gainer clothing before every game. Also bets the neighbour beers for popsicles when 'Riders play. He has won eight popsicles, I have given up seven beers. Hmmmmm.

First Rider memory: Kitchen table at the farm, about 4-7 years old listening to a game, it was a road game. Fourth quarter, 1 minute left, Riders are down by less than a touchdown on their side of mid-field. Honest, I remember this.

Lancaster comes on the field, the radio got quiet. I remember asking my Mom, why there was no (crowd) noise. She responded, "They're scared son, it's Ron Lancaster". Can't remember anything else. Absolutely hooked ever since.

Favorite player: It is like choosing between your children. I would say Chris DeFrance. Joey Walters, Don Narcisse, Ron Lancaster, Ray Elgard ect. also make the list.

Still miss home, will return permanently as soon as possible after I teach these Alberta boys about real football fans.

lived in toronto in 89 and on game day, told my dad, what are the odds we will be living in the city the grey cup is being held and the riders are in it. So i got tickets from the paper and we went to the game. I was right above where Tony Champion got that great catch that almost broke our hearts.

ANyways, i am new to this and started when I learned of the bc/sask game and I think we can make a difference by continuing to bombard them with our thoughts.(Like really a car race?)

But I love reading the interesting and thoughtful posts for all the topics. Especially interested to see the two very different opinions of Davin Bush.

Anyway, this is a great place to discuss, disect, rant and enjoy our riders.

Hope to see everyone on MOnday...go Riders

True lover of football--the ultimate statement being a Stamps season ticket holder this year.

Born in 1968, raised on Vancouver Island, British Columbia where I first started watching the Riders on TV as a six year old.
At first I dug the uniforms but eventually it was the diehard fans of the team that made me a permament Rider fan. Have always considered the Riders fans to be the best fans of any team in any sport in any country.
BC Lions season ticket holder for 3 years.
The life long dream has always been to take in a Rider game at Taylor Field. If things go our way this weekend it will be a dream of EPIC proportions.
